As part of its Performance Assessment strategy work stream for national and local healthcare services, the MeS (Management and Health) Laboratory at Sant’Anna School stays up-to-date with best practices and performance evaluation benchmarking of Italian university hospitals. Through data benchmarking process, performance measurements are used to integrate information into effective policy for governance. As of today, 23 university hospitals in Italy have adopted a rounded approach to assessments and quality indicators under the supervision of Professor Sabina Nuti.

On Wednesday, February 20, the Careggi (Florence) University Hospital will host a workshop engaging leaders and managers of hospitals, university rectors and key stakeholders at a regional level in sharing the results published on integrated care systems. One of the aims of the workshop is to introduce the framework for measuring health system performance proposed by researchers from University Milano Bicocca illustrating the concept of performance with respect to the major goal of improving population health.

There are three main goals for the health system: health, education and research. Professor Andrea Piccaluga, director of the Institute of Management at Sant’Anna School, will provide his views on the contents of the Netval project for technology transfer from public research institutions. The last session will convey analysis of outcome data from patients and staff giving an accurate account of quality of care services. Silvia Briani, general manager at Pisa University Hospital - Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana, has announced reviews of progress since, including an overview of key performance indicators.
